LOCTITE® SI 598

Known as LOCTITE 598

Features and Benefits

Pasty, 1-part, silicone adhesive sealant, which cures at room temperature to form a tough, flexible rubber gasket with excellent oil resistance.
LOCTITE® SI 598 is a metallic black, 1-part, thixotropic, room temperature vulcanizing oxime silicone paste sealant. It cures on exposure to moisture in the air to form a tough, flexible, silicone rubber gasket. It resists ageing, weathering and thermal cycling without hardening, shrinking or cracking. This product is typically used in applications with an operating range of -54 to +260°C.
  • Excellent resistance to automotive engine oils
  • Enhances load bearing & shock absorbing characteristics of the bond area
  • Typical applications include oil pans, transmission pans, valve covers, valves and guides, timing gear covers, and differential covers

How to

Step by Step Guide

1. Preparation - Cleaning

It is recommended to use LOCTITE® cleaners such as TEROSON® SB 450, to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying the adhesive. TEROSON® SB 450 is used for cleaning and can improve adhesion of elastic adhesives and sealants on metals, plastics and coated surfaces.

2. Application

Use supplied nozzle and, where appropriate, cut the end to give the desired bead size. Dispense adhesive bead(s) directly onto the surface to be bonded or sealed; parts should be assembled immediately to prevent partial curing and shimming. Prevent the assembled parts from moving during cure. For large areas where both substrates are non-water vapour transmitting (porous), do not cover complete bonding area with product and allow some gaps for moisture to penetrate the bond line. Any gaps can be filled once the adhesive bulk has cured.

3. Hints

Hold the nozzle at a 45° angle and pull towards yourself. Test on a piece of scrap to find the right speed that gives the bead size you need. Once the surfaces are mated, wipe away uncured excess product with a gloved finger or finishing tool. After use, leave the nozzle in place and use it as a cap.
