LOCTITE® 454 Instant Adhesive

Known as LOCTITE 454 Prism Instant Adhesive Gel

Features and Benefits

A surface-insensitive, fast-fixturing gel instant adhesive ideal for pourous and acidic materials.
LOCTITE® 454 is a gel viscosity instant adhesive designed for large bond gaps and vertical applications. It provides for the rapid bonding of a wide range of materials including metals, elastomers and plastics, including difficult-to-bond plastics (PP, PE, PTFE) with the aid of a primer such as LOCTITE SF 770. LOCTITE 454 is also suited for bonding porous materials such as wood, paper, leather and fabric. It is also ideal for all quick repair jobs.
  • Clear, universal instant adhesive gel
  • Operating temperatures from -54°C to 121°C (-65°F to 250°F)
  • Ideal for overhead application and vertical faces
  • Bonds similar or dissimilar substrate combinations of wood, metals, ceramics, most plastics
  • Reduced hazardous ingredients for improved occupational safety

How to

Step by Step Guide

1. Preparation - Cleaning

It is recommended to use the correct LOCTITE® cleaner for the surface to be bonded (such as LOCTITE® SF 7063 or SF 7070) to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying the adhesive.

2. Preparation - Priming

To improve adhesion on difficult to bond plastic surfaces, apply LOCTITE® SF 770 to the bond area by brushing or dipping. Avoid applying excess primer. Allow the primer to dry.

3. Preparation - Activation

If cure speed is too slow, use appropriate activator LOCTITE® SF 7452 or LOCTITE® SF 7455 (see cure speed vs activator graph in TDS). Apply activator to one bond surface by spray, brush or dipping (not primed surfaces). Allow the activator to dry.

4. Application

Apply adhesive onto one side/part.

5. Assembly

Assemble parts immediately. The parts should be accurately located as the short fixture time leaves little opportunity for adjustment. Bond should be held or clamped until the adhesive has fixtured. Hint: if necessary, excess product can be cured by activator LOCTITE® SF 7452 or LOCTITE® SF 7455. Spray or drop activator onto excess product.

Equipment

For precise dispensing of small amounts of adhesive, the use of dispensing needles is recommended.
